Maker: Heather of PrettyParis

Heather, a mom and a maker, is doing a great job of balancing her work and life and home.  I really enjoyed learning more about the heart behind her business, and I hope you do too! Meet Heather of PrettyParis.

Please introduce yourself!

Hi, my name is Heather and I am the proud owner of PrettyParis. Born and raised in California and living in South Orange County.  I love what I do as it allows me to be home with my 2 children – organizing my work hours around their school schedule. It’s a family effort around here as well! My mom helps me polish, package, and ship items on a regular basis. She is also my Patchwork Show helper…which I am proud to say I have been vending at for several years now.  I must add that I also have the help of our dog Jack…who loyally sits in the office with me and generally rotates between snoring and staring at me for long periods of time.

What do you make or do?

In my shop I use beautiful silver plated vintage flatware and hand stamp each piece.  Perfect for home, weddings, garden and just about any event or occasion you could think of. Items can be personalized any way you like.  All pieces are true vintage from the 1910’s to 1950’s. I personally hand pick all my flatware. Beautifully detailed patterns of florals and scrolls showcase the true beauty of these vintage pieces.

Is there a story behind the name of your business?

Keeping in line with the family effort…even my shop name has family meaning. PrettyParis started in 2009 when I had an idea for wedding forks. My shop is the home of the original “I Do, Me Too” wedding forks. An idea that began long before a shop name even occurred to me. Thinking long and hard over a shop name – and nothing coming to mind – until my chatty 3.5 year old (at that time) daughter named Paris began repeating “pretty please paris” over and over again as she toddled around the house. It just sort of struck me as adorable…but thought perhaps a bit too long. Shortened to PrettyParis and the rest is history as they say!

Is this your full time job?

PrettyParis opened in 2009 and has been an important part of my life ever since. It is my full time job while also juggling kids, dog, and general family life. My shop is incredibly important to me. I have met many wonderful customers, fellow sellers, store owners, etc through my business. It has kept me active and social while staying home with small children and provided an income for my family. I feel proud of my shop and creations and hope to carry on for many more years to come.

What do you do when you are not working?

When I am not working on PrettyParis orders I am generally helping with 5th grade homework (It’s hard! I am not smarter than a 5th grader!), maintaining general family life, walking Jack the Dog, and juggling friends-family-playdates-school projects-etc. For fun we enjoy the beach, pool, and love to get outside. We try to take small trips as often as possible to get out and see a bit of our world. Simple and happy – just the way we like it. Thank you for taking the time to read about me, my family, and my shop – PrettyParis.
