127 yard sale day 4: chattanooga to gadsden, al
the last time i was in Alabama was 5 years ago- the first time i came out to do the 127 yard sale. my mom and i started in gadsden and right where the sign that marks the “point of beginning” (see below) was a massive sale in the park- immediately i scored a $5 taters box and well the rest was history. so you could imagine my excitement in returning to it- i was ready, we still had room in the car and i had finally persuaded gustavo that if we saw something awesome, well lets get a uhaul trailer.
NOTE: one thing to keep in mind is that you are NOT on the 127 when you are in alabama. there are a few roads (176, 117, 89) that take you to gadsden if you are heading south. the 127yardsale.com website has a good map, that would have helped big time 5 years ago! however that wasnt the issue. as we headed south, we had to go up a huge hill (beautiful drive though) and drive a few hours and we literally saw 10 small sales (like 2 tables). i figured, gadsden had it- that is where i scored so much that we had to head to the interstate to chattanooga because we were running behind! maybe it was the rain we heard a few vendors talking about or maybe it was early sunday morning, i don’t know but much of what i was able to experience 5 years ago was non-existent. selection was small, many of he stalls were more swap-meet type goods and the items i was interested in i had seen at far better prices in kentucky and tennessee. i managed to snag another descoware piece (really scoring on those this year) and an adorable orange drinking set with a pitcher and that’s it…in 5 hours!
i did manage to have try deep fried peaches with powdered sugar which were fabulous (can someone please do that in so cal PLEASE- if you are reading this and will do it email me for a spot at Patchwork Edible Edition).
overall, i would not do that portion of 127 again. it was a lot of time and really most of it was in the car. i think for next year we are going to spend an extra day in chattanooga were we had probably one of our favorite meals of the trip so far- fried pickles with pimento cheese at Public House.
next post will be tips if you want to do 127 and signs from 127 (something I like to photograph while doing the yard sale)

Did a VERY small portion last year, started in Ky & only went 32 miles (that took 1 1/2 days). Want to do it again VERY soon! I had so much fun & for the most part really good deals, better than in CA.
HI Susie!
let me know if you do it next year, would be awesome to see each other at a stop and compare notes!
and i agree, 127 is way way better than CA, you have to search more but that is the fun!
thanks so much for reading!
