SO YOU WANT TO BE A CRAFTCATION ASSISTANT!

Fantastic! We are thrilled by your interest in becoming a Craftcation Assistant! This volunteer position is an awesome way to attend the Craftcation Conference – especially if you’re on a budget!  In exchange for volunteering your time as a Craftcation Assistant, you will be able to register and attend classes for FREE on the days/times that you are not volunteering! This applies to all Assistant Departments.

FULL DISCLOSURE: Craft workshops, business think tanks require advanced registration. As we are one week away from the first day of the conference, registration is now closed and we are on a waiting list for most workshops in these categories. This doesn’t mean you won’t be able to attend any workshops, though! You will just need to sign up for the workshop waiting lists displayed in each of the classrooms.  More waiting list information will be sent to you upon completion of your registration.

ASSISTANT DEPARTMENT ASSIGNMENTS:

We will try our best to accommodate your time block and department requests – be sure to weigh-in using the questions below to request your preferences. Feel free to reference the Craftcation Schedule to decide which days work best based on the workshops you’re interested in taking.

NOTE: BEGINNING IN 2019, ALL ASSISTANTS WILL BE ASSIGNED TO SERVE AT ONE MEAL IN ADDITION TO THEIR DEPARTMENT ASSIGNMENTS. THESE TIME SLOTS WILL BE ASSIGNED AS WE GET CLOSER TO THE CONFERENCE DATES.

We have FIVE volunteer positions that have opened up due to cancellations. Each of these positions includes two shifts assisting in the kitchen/food prep, the pop-up shop or in our craft workshops. See explanations of these departments below.


AVAILABLE POSITIONS:
  • FOOD PREP: Two shifts – Wednesday 9:00am – 5:00pm AND Thursday 9:00am – 6:00pm
  • FOOD PREP: Two shifts – Thursday 9:00am – 6:00pm AND Friday 9:00am – 6:00pm
  • POP-UP SHOP: Two shifts – Thursday 9:00am – 6:00pm AND Friday 9:00am – 6:00pm
  • CRAFT WORKSHOPS: Two shifts – Thursday 9:00am – 6:00pm AND Friday 8:00am – 5:30pm
  • DEPARTMENT TBA: Two shifts – Friday 9:00am – 6:00pm AND Saturday 9:00am – 6:00pm

KITCHEN/FOOD PREP:

Meal preparation is at a close-by off-site location, and involves mostly chopping and mixing. Serving meals will be a part of this department as well.

CRAFT:

Setting up craft classes with supplies, checking folks in, cleaning up, etc. This area also fills up quickly.

POP-UP SHOP:

Restocking inventory, keeping the shop tidy, and sales transactions.


OK – HERE’S THE FINE PRINT:

Craftcation Assistant assignments will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis. You may be asked to help in a different area that you were originally assigned the day of the conference if we have a need.

While we are happy to waive the price of your ticket in exchange for your time, please note that we DO NOT PROVIDE ACCOMMODATIONS. We suggest sharing a room with a friend (or three) to keep those costs down. If you are traveling solo, be sure to check out and join our Craftcation Alumni Community on Facebook to meet other attendees. People are always looking for roommates!

All Craftcation Assistants must agree to the Terms and Conditions in THIS document.

  • This Application shall act as an Agreement between the applicant (the Assistant) and Dear Handmade Life herein after referred to collectively as "the Parties".

    TERMS: The Assistant performs the service of their own free will, without promise, expectation or receipt of remuneration. Assistant is not an employee or agent of Dear Handmade Life or Craftcation for any purpose and Assistant's services are not controlled nor mandated by Dear Handmade Life or Craftcation. Assistant is a volunteer position and is not entitled to benefits, including employment insurance benefits upon the termination of this Agreement or as a result of this service.

    Service by Assistant includes organization, assisting and maintaining of daily operations involving the operating of the Craftcation Conference: April 3-17, 2019 in Ventura, CA.

    INSURANCE AND LIABILITY: Assistant assisting at Craftcation and who wishes to insure his or her property or person must do so at his or her own expense. Craftcation will not be responsible for, and shall be indemnified and held harmless by Assistant from and against any and all claims and damages of every kind, for injury to or death of any person or persons and for damage to or loss of property, arising out of or attributed, directly or indirectly, to the operations or performance of Assistant's officers, employees, representatives, agents or assigns under this agreement. Assistant further acknowledges that the acquisition of insurance is the sole responsibility of the Assistant. It is expressly understood and agreed, and the Assistant agrees by accepting these rules, that it will make no claim of any kind against Dear Handmade Life, Craftcation, or any of its officers, members, employees, volunteers, agents, hired service contractors, or assigns for any loss, damage to or destruction of goods, or for any injury that may occur to it or its officers, employees, representatives, agents, or assigns while at the Marriott Ventura, or for any damage of any nature of character whatsoever.

    NO SOLICITATION/TRADE SECRETS: Assistant acknowledges that Dear Handmade Life/Craftcation may, in reliance of this agreement, provide Assistant access to trade secrets, customers and other confidential data and good will. Assistant agrees to retain said information as confidential and not to use said information on his or her own behalf or disclose same to any third party.

    Assistant also agrees not to solicit any of the vendors, sponsors or other clients of Dear Handmade Life or Craftcation in any way after the volunteer term.
