Hello Craftcation Attendees!

We are beyond excited to be offering an app for this year’s Craftcation Conference!  We are using an amazing platform called Yapp to host our Craftcation App so you’ll need to download that app first and foremost. (Don’t worry – I walk you thru it down below.)

Topics and quick links for this tutorial:

If you have any questions or need help in any way before the conference, feel free to email me!  I will be popping into the Pre-Craftcation Planning workshop in Salon 1 on Wednesday, April 3rd from 4-5:30 pm.

Please Note: While we used an iPhone for this tutorial document, thorough testing was also completed on
the Android platform to make sure everyone can use this app.

Happy Yapping!

Downloading Yapp

Step 1: Download Yapp. You can search your App Store for Yapp, open a browser on your phone and type in this link: https://my.yapp.us/CRAFTCATION.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Step 2: On the next screen, click the orange Download button. This will take you to the app store. Click the button to download Yapp.

Your screens should look like the 3 images below.

Installing the Craftcation App

Step 3: Open YAPP.

Step 4: If prompted to allow notifications, we strongly encourage you to tap ALLOW. This will ensure you are notified whenever we send important broadcast announcements during the conference.

*Android users may not see this prompt and will need to manually check to make sure this app will send you notifications.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Step 5: When you arrive on the Welcome to Yapp screen pictured here, click the blue Add an Existing Yapp button.

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Step 6: This is where you will type CRAFTCATION in the empty box.

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]When you’ve made it to this screen…. CONGRATS! You have officially downloaded the Craftcation App!  This screen is called the Yapp home screen. When you launch Yapp, you will be directed to this screen. Simply tap the palm tree image you see below to open the Craftcation App.

*If Yapp is already open, you may be directed to the previously viewed screen instead of this home screen.

Setting Up your Yapp Account

Step 7: In order to interact within the app, (ex: use the Message Board), you will need to set up a Yapp account and login. iPhone users: To create your account, click the person icon in the upper left hand corner. Android users: Your person icon is in the upper right hand corner.

Navigating the Craftcation App

After setting up your Yapp account (or logging in to an existing Yapp account), you’ll be directed back here to the Yapp home screen. Welcome to the Craftcation App!

Step 8: Tap that pretty palm tree picture and let’s get into the fun stuff!

When you open the app, this Welcome screen will be the default landing screen. The Welcome screen will not change during the conference. It’s an introduction to what you can expect from the app.

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]To navigate within the app you will use the icons at the bottom of the screen. The icons visible from this view are: Welcome, Presenters, Schedule, Workshops, More.

Clicking the More tab will take you to a new screen that will give you access to more exciting app features. We’ll get into those in a minute![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator color=”custom” accent_color=”#f5d2ce” el_id=”yapp_presenters”][vc_column_text]

The first tab from the main menu is the Presenters tab. Here you can learn all about each of our conference presenters. Click on a presenter’s name to access their full profile including their bio, website and social info.

Let’s take a look at a Presenter bio. For the sake of example, let’s use our Closing Keynote Speaker, Amy Tan! You’ll notice that Amy’s website, Instagram and Facebook links are clickable so you can go follow her online or view her website from right within the app!

[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”custom” accent_color=”#f5d2ce” el_id=”yapp_schedule”][vc_column_text]

Now let’s talk Schedule. By clicking the schedule app, you’ll be directed to the screen pictured on the left below. On this tab, workshops are organized by date.  By now you should have your schedule ready to go but this is just in case you need a reminder of which workshops are happening on a given day.

Clicking a date from the Schedule tab will take you to a new screen with a list of ALL of the workshops scheduled for that day. They are organized by start time and then alphabetically.

For Example:

  • 2:00pm – Casual Craft
  • 2:00pm – Chalk Lettering
  • 2:00pm – Crepe Paper Flower Making

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]OK now here’s where things get really cool. You can set up your own Schedule within the app!  (I’m really excited about this part.)

Let’s click on Conference Check-In from the Schedule for Wednesday, April 3rd. We are directed here to the Workshop description screen. See that Add Event to My Schedule button?  Click it!!

Note: You won’t be redirected from that screen. To view the items you’ve added to your Schedule, click the Calendar icon in the top right corner. (This icon can be found on any Workshop description screen, the main Schedule tab and the daily workshop list.)

The photo on the right is an example of what a schedule will look like after adding one day’s worth of workshops and events.

Using the Schedule feature in this app does NOT guarantee your acceptance into a workshop. The only way to guarantee your seat is if you pre-registered for the workshop OR were accepted thru the waiting list form on our website. You will also have the option of getting into a class by signing the sign-up sheet hanging in the classroom of the workshop. Any questions, please ask a staff member!

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator color=”custom” accent_color=”#f5d2ce” el_id=”yapp_workshops”][vc_column_text]

Speaking of Workshops, let’s head to the Workshops tab! On this tab, we have organized workshops by category to make them easier to find. Click on a category and you’ll be directed to a list of all workshops in that category. They are listed in order of start time and then alphabetically.

Here is a screenshot of the workshops tab, a view of the Business : Productivity category workshops and a Workshop description page.

Communicating within the App

Message Board

Let’s talk about the Message Board! This is, by far, one of the most exciting features of the app!  To access the Message Board, click the More menu (3 white dots) from the bottom right corner of the main menu. Tap Message Board.

From the Message Board screen, tap the icon in the top right corner and post your message. Use this feature to share a ride to an off-campus event, post lost and found items, you can even ask for help applying your eyelashes for the Bad Ass Women in History party on Saturday….. you get the idea.

(Keep in mind, this Message Board is public and everyone who has downloaded the app will be able to see what you have posted.)

[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”custom” accent_color=”#f5d2ce” el_id=”yapp_announcements”][vc_column_text]

This app contains an Announcements feature. We will use this feature to notify you of any and all important updates throughout the conference. Announcements may include a change of classroom for a workshop, canceled or rescheduled workshops, reminders for big events, etc.

On the left in the image below is an example of what an Announcement broadcast will look like in your phone’s notifications. You can access a full list of all previously broadcasted announcements by clicking on Announcements from the More menu (pictured on the right).

[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”custom” accent_color=”#f5d2ce” el_id=”yapp_updatingapp”][vc_column_text]

One More Thing…

If at any time you open your app and see the pop-up message pictured on the right, be sure to click Load Update. This notification just means we’ve made some minor updates to the app since you last opened it. If this update includes  anything major like a change of venue, an updated class or canceled workshop, you will be notified in a broadcast announcement.
