Crafting A Conference Strategy Like A Boss

with Olivia Omega

Conferences are super fun! Craftcation sparks the imagination, gets the creative juices flowing, helps us learn new skills and allows us to connect with like-minded crafters. But the truth is, as a handmade entrepreneur, attending any conference is a financial investment. With any financial investment, should come a plan that helps us determine how to get the most out of that investment. During this session, we will create a conference action plan that establishes our conference objectives, top goals and maps out the steps needed to accomplish those goals both during and after Craftcation. These goals can focus on who we want to meet, who we want to partner with, and how we will apply what we’ve learned…all to take our handmade business to the next level. We’ll also talk about key networking tips that every conference goer needs to know. Let’s go![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text el_id=”cc20unboxingexperience”]

Navigating the New Landscape of Wholesale: Faire, Tundra, Instagram, and the Next Big Thing

with Lela Barker

The wholesale landscape is rapidly changing, and creative brand owners are struggling to stay ahead of the curve. In years past, sales reps, trade shows, and cold pitching were the most common avenues for connecting with shopkeepers. But those methodologies are expensive and often inefficient. And now? Modern buyers are searching for innovative ways to connect with new brands, and there’s a whole host of tech companies who are eager to help them. Faire and Tundra are battling head-to-head for the attention of shopkeepers and Instagram has become one of the preferred discovery methods for savvy shopkeepers.
In this wisdom-infused workshop, we’ll explore the pros and cons of each of these avenues. The Psychology of Successful Pricing Strategy: Thinking Beyond The Math

with Lela Barker

Many of us are trying to price our products while blindfolded, effectively playing “Pin The Tail On The Pricing Strategy”. That’s a recipe for frustration – and it leaves good money on the table, too. If you’ve been using tired pricing formulas or charging less than you know your products are worth, then this thought-provoking workshop will turn everything you know about product pricing on its head.

Successful pricing strategies are one part math, one part finance, and two parts psychology. In this all-new workshop, I’ll reveal how brand development and pricing strategy are intimately linked. We’ll dissect several creative products to understand how those brand owners command a coveted, premium price point and build legions of loyal fans in the process. We’ll stretch far beyond the simple math of production costs to unlock the stories people tell themselves when they interact with our brands. Finally, we’ll learn how to craft those narratives via powerful images and stories that get our profit margins safely in the black and position our companies for serious growth.

Attendees will leave armed with new ideas and actionable strategies to get their pricing on lock![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column el_id=”cc20thinktank_accountability”][vc_column_text el_id=”cc20ThinkTankAccountabilityPartner”]

*Make Your Own Leather Sandals

with: Stace Filwiler Wood

Learn to make your own custom pair of handmade leather sandals in this three hour workshop led by Stace Fulwiler Wood. Leather sandals have been worn for centuries, and for good reason: they are durable, breathable, comfortable, repairable and beautiful. Sandalmaking shops once dotted coastal towns throughout California, however this craft has become rare as shoe production has moved away from artisan methods & materials. Stace has been working to revive this craft by teaching sandal making workshops throughout California, showing people how gratifying it can be to make their own sustainable footwear. Stace will bring soft yet sturdy vegetable tanned leather for your sandal insoles & straps. As you wear your sandals, they will form to your feet and develop a deep and warm patina as they age. She will bring a handful of simple designs you can make during the workshop. You will learn how to modify the design to your unique feet, taking into consideration your bone structure and arch height to strategically place your sandal straps, creating the most comfortable sandal for your unique foot. You will cut out your insoles & straps, fit them to you feet, and glue them in place. You will then glue your uppers onto leather soles with a stacked leather heel. Once your sandals are assembled, Stace will finish them outside on a belt sander Voila ! You’ve made your first pair of custom handmade sandals!

What to bring: It’s best to wear sandals, since we will be getting barefoot during the fitting process. We will be bending, kneeling, and crouching during the making process so wear clothing that is comfortable to work in.

Wanderings: Self-Guided Artwalk

We are excited to bring back one of our favorite and most popular special events: Wanderings!  This fun and exciting scavenger hunt/art walk/room party tour will take place on Friday, April 17th. Grab a “passport” and a map (we’ll let you know where to find them once we get to the conference) and start wandering through the hotel to different experiences created by our incredibly creative attendees.

Stay tuned for more information on the experiences!

TO APPLY TO CREATE A WANDERINGS EXPERIENCE IN YOUR ROOM:

If you’re an attendee or presenter and you want to join Wanderings and create your own experience:

  • Applications will be available early 2020. There is no cost to participate.
  • All Wanderings room hosts and anyone who collects stamps from EVERY participating Wanderings room will be entered into a drawing for a FREE ticket to Craftcation 2021!

*Other prizes will be awarded for experience creators and those prizes will be announced closer to the event.
