june diy + business book club and giveaway

diy-craft-business-creative-book-club-dear-handmade-lifeThere are few things I love more about summer than getting to be near a body of water. There’s something transformative and centering about spending an afternoon next to a lake, river, pool or ocean. Sitting back, relaxing and being present in the moment doesn’t come easily to me. However when I’m on the bank of a river, edge of a pool or sitting in the sand and watching the waves rush to and then retreat from the beach, being in the here and now comes naturally. Yet, I can only sit there and do nothing for just so long. Then I reach for a book.

For the past few years my books of choice have tended towards DIY craft or business books. I love being able to share these titles in our monthly book club! It also helps me keep track of titles on my must-read list. This month’s book club features two awesome DIY craft books. The first is Washi Tape by Craftcation presenter Courtney Cerruti. I talk about our love of washi tape in my post on 14 Washi Craft DIY’s. If you love washi tape as much as we do, Courtney’s book is a must! The other DIY book this month is Fabric Blooms by Megan Hunt (aka Princess Lasertron). Megan takes felt flowers to a whole new level. I read our business title, How to Make Money Using Etsy by Tim Adam a few years ago when I was focusing on building my Etsy store. It’s full of great tips and it’s super in depth. Our last pick, Art Doodle Love by Dawn Devries Sokol inspires readers with prompts to help you get motivated and discover your creativity.

Whatever your summer plans are, I hope they include some swimming or at the very least sitting on the edge of a pool or lake and watching the sun twinkle in the water. If you’re looking for the perfect summer book to accompany moments like that, check out these or our other book club titles. Better yet, see the details below and be entered to win three of our June book club picks!

  1. In addition to all the novels I devour on a regular basis, I’m planning to read Kari Chapin’s “Handmade Marketplace” any day now!

  2. I have this one on my list: Craft Activism: People, Ideas, and Projects from the New Community of Handmade and How You Can Join In. by Joan Tapper, Gale Zucker, Faythe Levine 🙂

  3. I’m re-reading Craft Inc. and hoping to dig into Mom Inc. plus something else lighthearted and fun!

  4. I just started reading Kari Chapin’s Grow Your Handmade Business which I picked up at Craftcation this year!

  5. I’m finishing up Mary Roach’s Gulp. It’s all I’ve ever wanted (and not wanted) to know about the digestive system.
