And when it pays the bills, well, that’s like icing on the cake…or in this case, it’s the icing on the vegan cake. Meet Jenny and Heather, and learn about their adventure into the full time business of their gourmet vegan food company.

Hello Dear Handmade Life! We are Jenny and Heather – sisters and co-owners of Spork Foods. Spork Foods is a Los Angeles-based gourmet vegan food company. Our delicious, innovative cuisine emphasizes organic, local, and seasonal ingredients. We offer organic vegan cooking classes, in-home healthy eating consultations, private cooking parties, corporate trainings and demos, team-building cooking classes, catering and more. We grew up in Los Angeles and we live here as well!

What do you make or do?

We have been in business for 7 years vegan organic cooking classes at our loft in West Hollywood as well as traveling worldwide training chefs at universities, resorts, corporations and more. We teach about 10,000 people a year and work with many celebrities including Emily and Zooey Deschanel, Kristen Bell, Kristin Bauer, and many more. We love inspiring people to cook healthy food that’s good for their bodies, shows a compassionate lifestyle and is good for the planet.

Is there an interesting story behind the name of your business?

A Spork is a spoon and a fork meshed into one. We love the utensil because it is silly and playful. Having fun in the kitchen is hugely important to us so we thought it was the perfect name for our company.

How long have you been creating and is it your full-time job?

This is our full time and then some job! We have been at it for 7 years, building our business organically.

When you’re not making things, what do you do?

We are always making things! Occasionally we garden, hike, drink sangria and lay on the beach.
