Maker: Dhoris of Bunnycone Designs

Doris has the skill set to design, build and finish, and it can be seen in her jewelry and metalsmith work.  I enjoy her geometric designs, and hope you do too! Meet Dhoris of Bunnycone Design!

Please introduce yourself.

My name is Dhoris Pellos and I love anything and everything DIY. I have a degree in Graphic Design, work a full time job in construction as a Project Coordinator and started my business in 2008. I grew up all over the Bay Area and currently live in Oakland.

What do you make or do?

I’m a metal smith jewelry designer and maker. I design rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces.  I love the process of metalsmithing because I’ve always loved working with tools, torches, hammers and things. I love making things from scratch and watching it transform into something beautiful. I use mostly sterling silver and mix brass and copper with my designs. Each of my components are handmade, hand cut, soldered, sanded and polished by me.

How long have you been creating and is it your full-time job?

I’ve been making jewelry since 2008. It’s not my full time job. I sit in front of a computer most of the time. But I do get to go out to jobsites and see a project building built from the ground up. It’s really fascinating and inspiring to me. Then I go home and make jewelry and do craft shows on the weekends. I hope to one day make jewelry and my business a full time job. Can’t wait for that!

When you’re not making things, what do you do?

When I’m not making jewelry, I love to go hiking or do anything outdoors and take my camera with me. I love photography, gardening, yoga, I love to cook and eat, find a thrift store, hang out with the family and torment my cat whom I’m mildly obsessed with.

Where do you find inspiration?

Inspiration is everywhere and I’m always thinking about it. I get inspired by natural elements, city life and architecture, other artists. I love going to a bookstore and look at how-to books and jewelry designs, I can spend hours there. Most recently I’ve been inspired by art deco and have been looking at designs, architecture and art.
