today’s guests stars for our monday maker weekly are local shop owners (and lovebirds) jon cherry & lisa rios of whimsy & ink.  when they’re not devising superior ways to store your scotch, they’re running nest vintage and handmade– “a carefully curated” emporium of crafty goods for your home.  so, without further adieu, please meet our makers…

introductions please.

we are jon cherry and lisa rios. we are best friends, business partners and soon to be married! we live, love and work in north orange county.

what do you make or do?

we make modern hip flasks for awesome people. these aren’t your grandpa’s flasks- although we’re sure he was/is a very nice fella! we also own and operate nest vintage and handmade located within community in anaheim, ca.

where can we find your creations?

our flasks can be purchased from our etsy store, or in-person at our shop. we can also be found at various craft shows and art walks throughout southern california.

how long have you been creating and is it your full-time job?

lisa has been creating ever since she was old enough to use a bottle of elmer’s glue. after spending 15 years working for the man, she decided to make the leap to full-time maker and shop owner.

jon started out on his path to full-time creativity as a young teenager. he was never very far from a model or his sketchpad.

when you’re not making things, what do you do?

when we’re not making flasks, we’re usually doing responsible shop owner stuff. like bookkeeping. or taking inventory. or making up rap songs.

what obstacles have you had to overcome to lead a creative life?

we had to give up our dreams of owning a villa in the south of france, for one. and we don’t see our friends and family as often as we’d like.

but, we’d rather work 80 hours a week for ourselves…and be afforded the opportunity to create every day and meet kick ass people than working a 9-5 and living for the weekend.

what’s on the horizon for you and what you do?

if our rap album doesn’t pan out, we look forward to growing our storefront and opening a second location within the next two years.

what would be your perfect day off?

ahh, to dream! the perfect day off would include a lazy morning of sleeping in and lounging around in our pj’s, followed by an art house flick and an evening out with friends. if there’s good beer, good music and good friends involved–that’s our kinda night!
