  1. This episode was such an eye opener. I have been struggling by myself in my little studio practicing like a mad woman, but every couple of weeks I get blocked, I don’t know which direction to go or if I’m actually in the right path.
Even though this episode talks about masterminds for business, I wonder if this would work for people who are not really yet in business but are searching while being self-taught. I thought I’d create a small meetup group for “aspiring” (though I hate the word) artists and illustrators but I realized that it might not be productive because not everyone wants to share their secrets and techniques. Even if each person’s art is different, getting together with other artists might not be as beneficial as for example a painter or illustrator getting together with a screenprinter or potter..
    For example:
I would love to get real feedback on the work I’m doing, not pat-on-the-back-it’s-great type of feedback.. and I don’t know if a group would be the place. A mentor would be ideal but mentors want to work with people who are already promising. Then I want to learn how to prep my work for printing (watercolor, ink, etc) and I’ve searched high-and low for techniques on that and I can’t find any.. So basically I’m not sure how to get a group going. I really would love to talk to people and share my ups and downs in a more practical way. Family and friends are not very useful in this department 🙂

Thanks for creating this podcast. I really get a lot out of it!

  2. Hi Luisa!

I think that is a really good idea to start an artists/illustrator mastermind! You don’t all have to be doing the exact same thing but just having a group of peers who understand what you are talking about is really valuable…you don’t have to explain certain things as they are already understood (friends and family are awesome but you’re right, they just don’t understand it sometimes). I also think it’s a great idea because you can have an extra set of eyes evaluating work–I get that way too, you are “in it” so much and so closely that it is hard to see the big picture.
Reach out online to see if anyone in your area would be up for this–if you find one person, see if they know other people and so on!
So glad you liked the episode and hope to hear from you again soon! XO
