CRAFTCATION 2020 WORK EXCHANGE PROGRAM

We are currently seeking reliable, part-time Work Exchange Staff (WE Staff) to work at Craftcation Conference 2020. In exchange for your time, you’ll receive a free ticket to attend the remainder of the conference. Our conference takes place over five days (April 15-19, 2020) in the adorable seaside town of Ventura, CA.

Your work exchange conference ticket includes:

WE STAFF DEPARTMENTS:

PRE-CON SETUP AND LOADING:

Pre-Conference work includes unloading the 26’ U-Haul, preparation and set up for the conference, unpacking boxes and organizing supplies, assembling and installing decorations and getting everything ready. *This position requires that you be able to lift 35lbs, climb in and out of our U-Haul to unload supplies, potentially be on your feet for long periods of time and move around the hotel quickly.

AVAILABLE SHIFTS:

    • Sunday, April 12 (12pm – 9pm)
    • Monday, April 13 (9am – 6pm)
    • Tuesday, April 14 (9am – 6pm)
    • Wednesday, April 15 (9am – 6pm)

KITCHEN / MEAL PREPARATION:

Meal preparation takes place at an off-site location 5 minutes from the Marriott. Rides to and from the hotel can be arranged. Staff on the kitchen team will be chopping, mixing, and preparing food. This is a back of house position and therefore serving the meals is not a part of this department. *You MUST be able to work on your feet in a kitchen with many moving bodies for long periods of time.

    • Thursday, April 16 (9am – 6pm)
    • Friday, April 17 (9am – 5pm)

CRAFT WORKSHOP SUPPORT:

Craft workshop support positions include setting up craft classes with supplies before each workshop, shifting supplies around the hotel, checking folks into workshops, cleaning up/setting up for next class and potentially assisting the teacher and students during the workshop.  You MUST be able to shift supplies around the hotel and lift 20 lbs.

    • Wednesday, April 15 (9am – 6pm)
    • Thursday, April 16 (8am – 6pm)
    • Friday, April 17 (8am – 6pm)
    • Saturday, April 18 (8am – 6pm)
    • Sunday, April 19 (9am – 6pm)

AV/TECH SUPPORT:

This department is responsible for prepping business workshops, setting up and running digital presentations, distributing handouts to attendees and helping presenters with any technical issues that may occur during class.  *Please note: IT experience preferred!

    • Wednesday, April 15 (9am – 6pm)
    • Thursday, April 16 (8:30am – 6pm)
    • Friday, April 17 (8:30am – 6pm)
    • Saturday, April 18 (8:30am – 6pm)
    • Sunday, April 19 (9am – 6pm)

EVENTS/DECOR:

This department is in charge of setting up and breaking down signs, setting up and guiding attendees to off campus tours, workshops, activities, etc. This team is also responsible for taking care of ordering and getting lunches for all staff. This is a great department for local Ventura residents who already know their way around town. *Please note: You must have your own car and be able to move 20 lbs.

POST-CON TAKEDOWN AND LOADING:

Staff members in this department are responsible for breaking down and helping pack up supplies, equipment, and decor to load back into our 26’ U-Haul. *This position requires that you be able to lift 35 pounds and be able to climb in and out of the u-haul.

    • Sunday, April 19 (11am – 8pm)

THE FINE PRINT

WE Staff assignments for Craftcation 2020 will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. We will work hard to accommodate your department and shift requests, however, you may be asked to assist in an area that differs from your requests.

To qualify for a free ticket, you must work 2 1/2 of the shifts listed above. If you would prefer to work less than 2 1/2 days your ticket will be discounted ($120 off your ticket for each day worked) but not free. Please include this information in the notes section of the application below.

WE STAFF POSITIONS TO DO NOT INCLUDE ACCOMMODATIONS.

We suggest sharing a room with a friend (or three) to keep those costs down. Once your position is confirmed, we will send you an invite to our Craftcation Alumni Community where we encourage you to meet other attendees where you can share travel and lodging expenses. Attendees are always looking for roommates and carpool buddies!
