Patchwork Show Long Beach Fall 2014
Change, however stressful and uncomfortable it can sometimes be, can also be something good. That was the case at our fall 2014 Patchwork Show in Long Beach when we found out that our usual location was double booked, with only a month to go until the event. YIKES!!
Fortunately, there was a decent-sized park called Mother’s Beach right over the small bridge, no more than 200 feet away from our usual spot. With little time and a new set-up (since we’d now be on grass instead of the pavement), we set out to map the event and get things in order. The day of the event, we carted everything into position (note: grass is not as easy as pavement for rolling things LOL) and helped to guide vendors into the new set-up. Usually at shows, vendors can pull right up to their booth, this time because of the grass, everyone had to cart their goods from a parked space. I have to admit that it is a little more work to do this, but from my perspective, it was actually 100 times easier on our staff as we didn’t have to direct 100 cars!
Soon enough the show started. We just missed a much needed but very intense rainstorm that had happened the day before so the air was clean and clear, a perfect day for shopping. As I walked around the show, I noticed that the park, with all of its trees made the area look more like a festival. The trees also provided shade which cooled the space, plus the grass was cool and soft to walk on. I spent time talking to other vendors and they agreed that the park was a nice venue instead of being in a large parking lot!
So, the sudden change actually turned out to be something really good and it looks like Mother’s Beach will be the new home for our Long Beach event 🙂
Thank you to all the vendors, customers, volunteers and staff that helped to make this a fantastic show. Stay tuned for photos from our Oakland show and we look forward to seeing you on November 30th for our last show of the season in Santa Ana!!
