This week on the Dear Handmade Life podcast we’re drinking a Jacoby (recipe below) and talking to Rosalie Gale (a regular Craftcation Conference presenter) about the value of humor in business and creativity.

Laughter is often the best medicine and can be a useful thing for your business. Rosalie shares how she uses humor in her business, her experience in stand up comedy and how humor can be a practical tool for life and business. We also explain the term ‘craft show hot’, talk about how to get over your anxiety of putting yourself out there, how to know when it’s time to move on from something and the importance of knowing your audience whether you’re on stage telling jokes or in your booth at a craft show.

Rosalie and her husband, Doug, invented Shower Art – waterproof art you can hang in your shower with a suction cup – and sell them under the company name Ugly Baby. She also created and maintains Unanimous Craft – a website that gives you the skinny on all the best places to sell your work: craft shows, brick and mortar shops and online venues. In her spare time, she opened a retail store called Ugly Baby and La Ru in the historic Pike Place Market.
