Beyond knit and purl: Picture knitting

Intarsia is a technique that allows you to knit an image right into your work so that it looks like your yarn magically changed from one color to the next. But if you’ve ever tried it, you may have found yourself tangled in a mess of yarn ends and bobbins. In this class, you’ll learn Debbie’s way of working intarsia, which doesn’t involve bobbins of any kind. While working on an adorable sheep motif, you’ll learn how to create “infinity” yarn, and how to make your work as neat and perfect as humanly possible.

Conferences are super fun! Craftcation sparks the imagination, gets the creative juices flowing, helps us learn new skills and allows us to connect with like-minded crafters. But the truth is, as a handmade entrepreneur, attending any conference is a financial investment. With any financial investment, should come a plan that helps us determine how to get the most out of that investment. During this session, we will create a conference action plan that establishes our conference objectives, top goals and maps out the steps needed to accomplish those goals both during and after Craftcation. These goals can focus on who we want to meet, who we want to partner with, and how we will apply what we’ve learned…all to take our handmade business to the next level. Product Pricing 101: Locking Down Your Numbers

If smart product pricing is foundational to business success, then why is product pricing so darn puzzling? I don’t know friend, but I do know that far too many of us struggle when it comes to the dollars and cents of our business. Should we add labor costs if we’re doing all the work? Should we add rent expenses if we create our products at home? What counts as “overhead” anyway? How can we price to succeed in wholesale? Are any of those pricing formulas we’ve all heard on the internet worth putting into place? And how much profit is reasonable anyway? If you’ve got numbers swirling in your head and pricing questions burning in your belly, then I hope you’ll join me for this action-packed workshop that’s brimming with no-nonsense, easy-to-digest, actionable advice about how to get your numbers on lock and your profits in the black! HEADS UP: This class continues at Craftcation with Pricing 102: The Psychology of Pricing. Wild Writing Workshop

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]With: Laurie Wagner

Wild Writing is a super creative, timed writing process that we use to tell our stories with, to break through writers’ block, and to uncover the themes we want to write about. For 15 minutes we write as fast as we can, pen never leaving the page. By writing quickly we are able to push past our inner critic and our ego and all the ways we stay trapped in looking good. This gives us a chance to move into a less self conscious, loose groove where, if we’re lucky we may stumble into the fertile imagination that lingers within us, conjuring up stories and memories that are waiting to be written. After we write we read our work aloud, though we don’t critique. This technique, while very therapeutic, is also a wonderful way to jumpstart any good writing project because it helps you get to the chewy nougat of what you are trying to say.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1502044554621{margin-top: 30px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text el_id=”cc18facebookforrest”]

5 Tips for Successfully Funding Your Passion Project with Kickstarter

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]With: Vickie Howell

Crowdfunding projects is *the* wave of the creative financing future. What Uber did for ride sharing and Wikipedia has meant for information gathering, sites like Kickstarter are doing for entrepreneurs and artists. That is: encouraging individuals to reach out to their community to fulfill specific needs. Running a successful campaign to finance a project however, can be a challenge. The fact that the overall success rate in any Kickstarter category hovers just under 36% can also, frankly, be intimidating. Not to worry, though — this workshop’s got you! Vickie Howell, Executive Producer/Creator/Host of “The Knit Show with Vickie Howell” (Season 1 premiered October 2017), successfully met 110% of the project’s Kickstarter goal by raising $83k in 30 days to fund the series’ production. During this lecture she’ll share the trials and triumphs of The Knit Show campaign, the lengths that the team went to keep momentum going, and what did and didn’t work when it came to driving people to become Backers of the project, and before it was too late. You’ll walk away with an idea of how to approach your campaign, and plenty of tidbits to fuel the funding of your own dream project![/vc_column_text][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1502044554621{margin-top: 30px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text el_id=”cc18ccbuttonmaking”]

Casual Crafting: Build Your Own Body Scrub

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]With: Sannae Hopson

Did you know your skin constantly regenerates itself? Over the course of 30 days, your cells make their way to the epidermis (the outermost layer of the skin), where they shed themselves naturally. Unfortunately, things like weather, diet, age & pollution cause cell turnover to become sluggish & prevent cells from naturally shedding. This can cause an excess of dead skin cells, resulting in dry & tired appearing skin. Making exfoliating an important step in your skin care routine! Exfoliating loosens debris in clogged pores, slough off deal skin cells, which can improve your skin’s texture, brighten your complexion, allow moisturizers to absorb better. From skin softening coconut sugar, tightening hibiscus, brightening orange peels crushed rose petals, honey powder, to ground almonds experience exfoliating with aromatic and vitamin rich fruit powders, skin nourishing oils and detoxifying salts like never before in this Build Your Own Scrub Workshop. *Body scrubs can be messy so keep this in mind and wear clothes you don’t mind potentially getting messy.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1502044554621{margin-top: 30px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text el_id=”cc18fabricbowls”]
