Handle Criticism Like a Pro (Panel)

When you put your work into the world, you’re bound to get criticism. Some of us even avoid taking leaps so we don’t have to deal with the feedback. The fear of criticism can paralyze our creativity and potential. In this panel, our expert panelists share their stories of facing their harshest judges (often our own self!), how they push past actual and potential negativity, explore the positive sides of criticism and more.

“Attachment to praise and avoidance of criticism keeps us from doing innovative, controversial work and–more simply–from following the paths we feel called toward, whether or not those around us understand or approve.”

Setting Up Systems for Success

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]With: Isaac Watson

Think systems, be systems! To many creatives, systems mean rules and rules are either scary or made to be broken. But systems have the power to enable productivity and free you up to be even more creative. Not all bad, eh? We’ll talk about developing a systems mindset, look at all the different ways you can embrace systems in your maker business, cover some of the digital and analog tools that a lot of makers employ, learn how to actually identify when a system is working (or not working) for you, and work with fellow classmates to sketch out a system that could be applied to an actual challenge or hurdle in your business.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1502044554621{margin-top: 30px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text el_id=”cc19marbledleatherhairbarrette”]

For Beginning Students – This workshop will introduce students to the wonder of marbling, an amazing, sponaneous art form that creates beautiful one-of-a-kind surfaces. We will use a traditional method of marbling in a thickened water bath, and have the opportunity to develop a color palette and make a few practice prints as we get the hang of the process. Then, we will marble and assemble a set of 4 leather hair barrettes, which we will hand finish for a beautiful artisanal effect. We will use vegetable tanned leather, which is treated with plant derived tannins, a less toxic process than conventional chromium tanning. The final product will be a colorful accessory to jazz up your hair style. You will leave will a newfound understanding of the marbling process, as well as some helpful tips for creating simple leather projects on your own!

You will have several designs to choose from and you can let us know your choice when you register. No previous experience necessary! Your class kit includes 100% wool rug yarn, a Morgan No-Slip hoop and monks cloth with pre-printed pattern. Badass Women Throughout History Saturday Night Party

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Location: The Tavern – 211 E Santa Clara St, Ventura, CA

Join us “off-campus” at The Tavern in downtown Ventura for our themed party celebrating the women who have shaped our lives and the world. Dress up to honor a real or fictional woman that has inspired you.

Maybe it’s Michelle Obama, Pat Benatar, Ellen Ripley (aka Sigourney Weaver in Alien), Sojourner Truth, Dolly Parton, Nina Simone, Marie Curie, Gertrude Stein, Yuri Kochiyama, Erin Brockovich, Betty White or maybe even your mom or your 4th grade English Lit teacher.

The Tavern will have a special discounted drink and snack menu for Craftcation attendees plus we’ll have dancing, a photo booth, trivia games, a badass “tattoo” parlor and AuraDome will be taking aura photos!

If you don’t feel like dressing up, don’t worry, just bring your awesome self!

P.S. – Thanks to Craftcation presenter Jenice Anderson for this awesome theme idea!
