PR, Pitching, and Getting Publicity with Mei Pak on the Dear Handmade Life podcast

Today on the Dear Handmade Life podcast we’re talking to Mei Pak from Tiny Hands Jewelry and Creative Hive Co. and drinking a Wandering Angus Cider. We talk with Mei about the importance of getting press, how to pitch, how to prepare your business before you pitch, the dos and don’ts of pitching, the rules of following up, how to get through the fear of rejection and more!

Here are the pitching mottos to put above your desk that we talked about:

  1. Competence = confidence
  2. If you don’t ask, you won’t get.

And links to a few things we mentioned: Mei’s podcast: The Business Buzz Podcast, Jia Jiang’s Ted Talk “What I Learned From 100 Days of Rejection“, Tiffany Han’s 100 Rejection Letters program and Flavia Bernardes Art.

  1. I am new to your podcast but I look forward to the next one as soon as I’m finished with the current one. Always interesting and useful information. Thank you!

  2. I became hooked on your podcast while I listened to many episodes on a recent (rainy) road trip to Pittsburgh.
I’m daydreaming about starting a business around sewing and I’ve gotten great information out of every episode, including this recent one on pitches. No pitches for me yet, but maybe someday…

  3. OMG! Daily Candy! I started my children’s clothing line in 2007. Daily Candy was the biznasss! Getting featured on there was huge for my business. PR in general was a huge game changer for me. I didn’t really know what I was doing at the time, but being genuine and authentic as a maker was key. Thanks for such an informative podcast ladies! Times sure have changed in 10 years with regard to tactics, but the basic keys to success are the same. Thanks again! Olivia
